minimum numbers in sudo ku

Postby prateek » Tue Jan 31, 2006 1:39 pm

I was just wondering that what are the minimum numbers required to be given in a sudoku problem to ensure a unique solution.
I hope I'll get the answer soon
Thank You!!!!!!!1

You could have read the answer in many threads in the General/puzzle forum:
The minimum clue sudokus found so far have 17 clues or 18 for symmetric puzzles resp. It is not proved but very probable that no unique lower clue sudokus exist.

i agree, the standard is that they should be symmetric so i say that it is 18

When looking for a 17 that has symmetry, one must remember there are many types of symmetry other common 2 fold rotation. See here. I don't know if a search for symmetrical 17's has been conducted using this broader restriction.
