The most recent version of hobiwan's HoDoKu is 2.2.0 released 29/7/2012.

There exists a newer version - PseudoFish's Hodoku is here: https://github.com/PseudoFish/Hodoku
Scrolling through this web page shows a (long) list of changes from hobiwan's release.

The most recent (stable) version is 2.3.0 (released 10 Jan 2020) which can be downloaded from here: https://github.com/PseudoFish/Hodoku/releases
.

Very good to know.

So what brave soul is going to use it and report back? The version I'm using ain't broke, so I'm a little leery of fixing it. :D

It looks at 1st glance that it targets GUI improvements. I couldn't see anything related to the main Engine or Solving

I'll chime in. Bernhard was quite clear. It's HoDoKu not Hodoku. Why oh why did PseudoFish change the name?
Anyhow... YZF_Sudoku is advancing Bernhard's excellent work. Anyone interested in the HoDoKu world should take time for YZF_Sudoku.

Hello,

Unfortunately, being a Linux user, I was not able to install YZF_Sudoku code (and for that matter any other Sudoku program) in my laptop.
Among other reasons, I like Hodoku and SukakuExplainer also because they were made available for any operating system. They are the only ones that I could install (easily) and use without any issues. No problem installing PseudoFish's Hodoku too.

Regards,
jco.

I also use a Linux OS on my table top. To use YZF_Sudoku, I first installed wine. Release 611 of YZF_Sudoku works quite well with wine. There are a few minor issues with this release using wine. Quite understandable as this software is still in development.

I tried to download the software, but Windows keeps refusing it, saying that it could be harmful.

No problem here (tried both W7 and W10). I downloaded the 2.3.0 Hodoku.jar. java.exe -jar Hodoku.jar, Starts OK on both Windows.

Thanks. I guess it's something with my computer. I'll keep fiddling with it until it works.

After you get the message from W10 that it is unsafe and 1 button "not to execute", press "more information" and you get a second button "execute anyhow"

Thanks. I'll try it.

OK. That worked. Now I'm trying V2.3.0.

The first minor problem is that I couldn't find alternate mouse mode in the preference menu. Apparently it's been changed to single click mode. OK. The second problem is that loading my old configuration file seemed to work partially, but not completely. It did not, for example, enable alternate mouse mode (or single click mode).

The biggie is that I can't get coloring with the mouse to work at all. The coloring menu at the bottom left is labelled "coloring: none". Clicking on it doesn't change that. Neither does anything else I've tried. I can select a color, but using the mouse doesn't color either the cell or the candidate. For me, this is a fatal problem. I use coloring extensively.

The link to on-line help seems to get the old help files, so there's no help there on new issues.

The colouring options in Active Cell view worked for me. Did you try that?

There is this, if anyone is interested:

HoDoKu version 2.2.2, with many thanks to 1to9only for his willing and generous coding.
https://github.com/1to9only/HoDoKu/releases/tag/2.2.2

Includes some adjustments to my, unofficial, version 2.2.1.

Functionality otherwise remains as in 2.2.0.
